CANTERBURY · OTTAWA CRICKET
The Rich History archive records the people, competitions and turning points that shaped Canterbury Cricket Club.
Canterbury Cricket Club's modern identity dates to 1983, following the coming together of two earlier sides with ties to the Ottawa cricket community. The Canadian Forces Ottawa Cricket Club and Levenoques Cricket Club shared a determination to keep local cricket moving forward. Their merger created Canterbury and established a story that extends beyond a single match or title. When visitors look for the history of cricket in Ottawa, these smaller club stories are part of the larger picture: grounds developed by volunteers, players welcoming others into teams, and seasons in which a strong club culture helped sustain competition.
This history archive is organized around achievements and the people behind them. It brings together the Golden Era, divisional results, finals appearances and individual player profiles. Championship results and runner-up finishes are distinguished rather than grouped into a single misleading count. Records can represent different competitions, so the season, division and outcome matter when interpreting a club achievement. This approach helps both former members and new visitors understand what a particular milestone represents rather than treating every trophy photo or result as interchangeable.
A club's legacy also lives in everyday details that do not always appear on a scorecard. The first practice of a new member, a captain helping younger teammates learn from a difficult match, or a volunteer preparing for an awards event can be as important to club continuity as a notable innings. Our archives are intended to recognize those contributions alongside cricketing success. If you played for Canterbury, supported a season, or hold photographs and verified records that would improve these pages, please contact the club. Accurate local history becomes more useful when people can add context, identify participants and preserve reliable dates.
